Womp, Womp, Womp

So no post today. I have some ideas rattling around in the ol’ noggin, but nothing is fleshed out yet and I really want to work on my D&D character. Still have some fleshing out to do for her. Her name is Stothana and she is pretty badass. Maybe I’ll post a picture of her once I get my figurines all painted up. Have a good weekend!

Girl on Girl Hate

This week I was introduced to Laci Green’s, Sex + Youtube Channel. She is my new favorite thing. She’s funny, honest, insightful and makes light of some interesting issues. One issue that smacked me right in my hater face was the one about Girl on Girl Hate.

She talks about how girls are always hating on each other and why that may be. It’s really good, seriously go watch the video (click the link above to watch it). The reason it resonated and humbled me was because I am so, so guilty of this. As women, and I think, as mom’s we tend to sit there judging each other when we should be supporting and lifting each other up. Because come on, parenting is wicked hard, the last thing we need is to be judged. But I’m not going to talk about parenting. I’m going to talk about the reason I felt so shamed by this video.

Somewhat recently I was interested in a man. We were hanging out, getting to know each other, however he made it clear early on that he wasn’t interested in dating. I thought I would be ok with just being friends, but it became apparent that I couldn’t do that. My heart was too far into wanting him as a boyfriend. So we stopped hanging out. It sucked to loose a friend, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

So fast forward a couple months, I’m going out with my sister and she warns me that this man now has a new “lady friend.” They’re not officially together, but they might as well be. It was hard to see them together. I was jealous, but managed to keep it together.

The next outing was not so successful. I’d had a bit of “liquid courage” and started talking about how much better I was than this girl. This girl whose name I don’t even know, who I’ve never spoken to, who I’ve barely even glanced at. I realized, after watching Laci Green’s video, what I was doing. I was totally hating on someone I didn’t even know, for something that wasn’t even her fault.

It’s not her fault that that man didn’t want to date me. It’s not her fault that he decided he was ready to date when he met her. She didn’t steal him away, we weren’t even talking when they started seeing each other.

After my night of girl hate, I decided I needed to make a real effort to not do it. It’s hard because a lot of the time I don’t even realize I’m doing it. But I’m determined not to hate on my fellow females. We’ve got plenty to contend with already without having to fight each other!

Do you any other ladies find themselves guilty of such crimes? What do you do to help you not hate on your fellow females?

Worst Kids Shows

I think most people have heard me complain about children’s programming at one time or another. So I decided to compile a top five list, because I like top five lists. So here it is! My top five most hated children’s shows!

1. Wonder Pets

I want to punch these animals in their throats.

I want to punch these animals in their throats.

Alright, so I get that this show is like “Yay! Teamwork!” But really? It’s like an opera, they sing everything, and that duck! She can’t say her r’s properly and it just makes me cringe every time she says her stupid tagline “This is serious!” Ugh, for real, I wanna punch them all. Every time Jack wants to watch this I HAVE to be doing something else. I can’t even sit on the couch and ignore it. I have to be in another room. I’ve got problems with this show.

2. Caillou

One of the blogs I follow did a great post on this show, so I’ll just link to his commentary. It’s pretty much exactly how I feel about this show. Read his post here.

3. The Wheels on the Bus

Ummmm, what is going on?

Ummmm, what is going on?

Yeah, so this a thing. It popped up on Netflix one day and Jack wanted to watch it. I don’t like it because it’s just weird. There are puppets and singing and bad CGI buses. It’s just…weird. Then, on long car rides, Jack asks me to sing all the different verses they do on this stupid show and I don’t know them all because they make stuff up like “The chickens on the bus go cluck, cluck, cluck.” Why are there chickens on the damn bus?! Since I don’t know all the made up crap they put on this show he gets a little testy and then we have to watch it again. You know to kill my soul refresh my memory.

4. Fireman Sam

0783_sam_newimage2Ok, so this show really isn’t so bad. It’s easy to tune out, and the theme song isn’t that terrible. But the kids on this show are so annoying. They make stupid choices, like putting a mother’s scarf in the oven to dry it. Really?! And their voices drive me absolutely batty. Also, it irritates me that one of the firefighters is pretty dumb. I know he’s supposed to be there for comic relief, but come on. He’s really stupid, how did he even get to be a fireman?

5. Bob the Builder

Can we fix it?!

Can we fix it?!

This show has grown on me. But there are still two things that irritate me about this show. The first being that Lofty is a huge wuss. Every time Bob asks the team if they can fix something everyone yells “Yes we can!” all confident and stuff. Then there’s Lofty who says “Uhh, yeah, I think so.” Nearly every time. Come on Lofty grow a pair!

The second thing that irks me about Bob the Builder is that anytime someone makes a mistake Bob (or whoever finds out the mistake) says “Ohhh, it’s ok.” I hate that, because it’s not ok! If you break something you gotta fix it and sometimes saying “I’m sorry” isn’t enough. It annoys me that Bob will fix whatever goes wrong because his machines are being irresponsible. At least on Thomas the Train when a train makes a mistake he’s expected to fix it so he can be really useful again. It’s for that reason that Thomas is not on this list, even though it can get pretty grating as well.

I know there’s more out there, more shows that make you cringe every time your child asks to watch television. Go ahead and vent in the comments! What are your least favorite kids shows?

Chop, Chop

This week was sort of stressful. After spending a weekend at my parents house I returned with a son vomiting in the night. I wasn’t sure what it was and I was stressed out about it because I had lots to do this week. Luckily turns out he only threw up three times and was back to his normal self in the morning. He was eating and drinking fine, with no problems. But because I couldn’t be sure of what made him sick in the first place (virus, food poisoning) I had to skip my first D&D meet up. I was really bummed about it but would have felt worse exposing my friends to a possible virus. So I skipped it.

One thing I did not skip was a haircut. I haven’t cut my hair in three years. I’ve gotten trims here and there but nothing too drastic. I’v wanted to keep it long. That suddenly changed about a month ago. I started thinking about cute short hairstyles. My problem is I’m a total amateur when it comes to styling so it has to be fairly simple and easy. I finally decided on a hairstyle after a month of pondering.

On Wednesday I bit the bullet and chopped off my hair. I. Love. This. Hair. It looks like this:

"Have you seen a girls with hair like this?"

“Have you seen a girl with hair like this?”

I tried to style it today and it was pretty easy. The only problem with my hair is it all likes to flip funny. Meaning one side is flipped under towards my neck while the other side is flipping out away from my neck. So I need to get some styling stuff to make it all the flip the same. Anyways, the haircut was the most relaxing part of my week.

Honestly I don’t know that there’s anything better than getting your hair washed and cut by someone. So nice. And I have hott hair to boot!
